Your screen stays on your Mac

Notchback records your main display into a rolling buffer in a temporary folder on your Mac. Older seconds are deleted continuously. The buffer is deleted when you pause, lock your Mac or quit. Saved clips stay in Movies › Notchback until you delete them. Notchback never uploads your screen, clips or frames anywhere.

License checks

If you buy Pro, the app sends your license key, your Mac's name and an anonymous device ID to our license service, which checks the key with Dodo Payments. The device ID is a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID; the hardware ID itself never leaves your Mac. The app repeats this check about once a day while it's online. Nothing else is sent.

Payments

Checkout is handled by Dodo Payments as merchant of record. They process your name, email and payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your email and order details so we can deliver your license and support you.

The app has no analytics

The Notchback app contains no analytics, tracking or crash reporting. Apart from the license checks above, it doesn't contact any server.

Website analytics

This website (not the app) uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors find and use it: pages viewed, clicks on buttons such as Install and Buy, scrolling, device and browser type, approximate country, and the site that referred you. Clarity can also record anonymised session replays of your mouse movements and clicks on the site. Text you type into fields is masked.

These tools set cookies. If you're in Europe, nothing loads until you choose "Allow". If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, they never load. You can change your choice any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the home page. The thank-you page that shows your license key never loads analytics.

We've turned off Google's advertising features (Google signals and ad personalisation) and keep analytics data for 14 months. Google and Microsoft process this data under their own privacy policies: Google, Microsoft.
